Born near Guelph, Ontario. After her marriage to Douglas David Sutherland, she moved to the UK. Upon his death from typhoid fever, Elinor returned to Ontario, but after her marriage to David Kennedy, she moved with her daughters, Lucy and Elinor, to St Helier, Jersey (1872).

'In January of that year [1860] Elinor married Douglas S. Sutherland, a young civil engineer. They lived in Guelph while Douglas worked on the Grand Trunk Railway. Douglas then found work first in New York City then in Brazil. In 1862, just in time for the birth of their first daughter, Lucy Christiana, the Sutherlands moved to London, England.

Their daughter Elinor was born in 1865, just three months before the 27-year-old Douglas died of typhoid fever. Elinor returned to Canada with her daughters to live with the Saunders at Summerhill. In 1872, she married 62-year-old bachelor David Kennedy, but only after he had promised to take his new family to live in Britain. They rented a house near St. Helier on Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands. A doctor had persuaded Kennedy that the climate there would help improve his asthma. The move was a bitter disappointment to Elinor and her daughters, who had been looking forward to an exciting new life in England.

Both daughters did eventually lead exciting lives — Lucy as a well-known dress designer and Titanic survivor, and Elinor as a novelist and Hollywood scriptwriter. After Kennedy's death, Elinor lived with Lucy and helped her establish her business.'--http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Saunders-263 1
